Board Governance Report
Clint, the board chair, gave a report on the recent activity of the board. You, the membership, elect us, the board members, to act as your representatives in steering the future of the co-op. To that end, the board is striving to meet two goals: 1) to create policy and 2) to connect with the membership. Recent policy discussions have centered around the debate over whether the co-op should focus on local or organic foods. We are also working to create a policy to govern our relationship with local producers. You can have a voice in policy by attending board meetings, responding to the board blog, or emailing the board at board@commonground.coop. Look for a strategic visioning day in January and a member survey in the store within the next few months. The board also came up with a calendar for the entire next year; that means our agendas are set for the next twelve meetings. The board calendar is available for you if you

I agree with you, Tom. I am

I agree with you, Tom. I am a grandmother and I think that it would be wonderful to provide some very small shopping carts to let the children "help" so that the experience is positive for the family and the folks around the children. Often, a little diversion is all that is needed to make children happy. I was at Whole Foods in St. Louis yesterday and saw the little children pushing little carts. They were so happy!

I agree 100% on nixing

I agree 100% on nixing childcare because of liability. As someone who works in one of my jobs in a retail setting I think people really need to take resposibility for their own kids. I find it bad form when someone bringing children into a store is clueless as to what their kids are doing when they are preoccupied during something else. I'm a parent myself & when in public it's your JOB to watch your own kids. Since Common Ground isn't in the child care business it would be an unneeded expense & responsibility to take this on.
