So I was reading Co-operative Grocer earlier this week (yes, I *am* that much of a co-op nerd!).

Muhammad Yunus on Social Businesses

Are humans single dimensional beings, driven only by selfish impulses? Nobel Peace Prize winning economist Muhammad Yunus warns us that is what the corporate world wants us accept. At his recent talk in Foellinger Hall he encouraged us to think about other, equally powerful, dimensions to our nature. He outlined an alternative business model based on the human capacity for selflessness. He calls these businesses social enterprises.

What to expect at the GMM

Our General Membership Meeting (GMM) is almost upon us! It will be held at the Urbana Civic Center next Friday (the 23rd). At this meeting we will of course have a potluck and a chance to socialize as a co-op community. I’m also looking forward to the contra dance that will be held later in the evening.

Community has always been a big part of what it means to be a member of Common Ground.

Board Report – GMM Recap

The bi-annual general membership meeting/potluck was Saturday afternoon, May 9 at Victory Park in Urbana. About 35 members attended, we had some great food as usual, and lively, engaging conversation.

Several items were at issue this meeting. We had board member election opening, a preliminary introduction to some bylaw changes that we'll be voting on in the next month or so, and an introduction to the Co-op's new ends policies.

How to write a member loan

We've received some comments that the process for making a member loan is a little complicated. We tried to make it as simple as possible, but to protect the co-op and the lenders we have to follow the legal advice that we were given by an attorney who specializes in member loan programs for co-ops.
